The ski resort of La Tania was first built in 1992 to house athletes competing in the Albertville Olympics, and has a great location to quickly access the extensive skiing of the Three Valleys. Built mainly in a traditional chalet style, its collection of properties comes together to create a quaint village atmosphere for those staying there – a home away from home high up in the majestic peaks of the French Alps.
La Tania is a village made for excellent skiing. Not only does the main gondola provide access to Méribel and Courchevel resorts but there are also a number of tree-lined pistes running right through the centre of town. This means most chalets found here are “ski in, ski out” for added convenience and more time on the slopes.
The gondola out of the village goes to Praz-Juget. From below here a six person chairlift heads on up to the ski slopes above Courchevel 1850, and a fast quad chairlift goes to the link with Méribel via the Col de la Loze. From all these points there are varied slopes that can take you back to the La Tania sector. The slopes immediately above La Tania and neighbouring Courchevel Le Praz are tree-lined, whilst the slopes above mid-mountain are open.
During a heavy snowfall or in flat light, the tree-lined slopes above La Tania provide some of the most enjoyable skiing in the whole of the Trois Vallées, but its position off the beaten track means that the area is always under-used. La Tania is an ideal place for those who are determined to ski the Trois Vallées, but are restricted to a tighter budget.
There is a good beginner are and free lift right in the village. For snowboarders, it is easy to get around on gondolas and chairlifts, thus avoiding drag lifts. The are a great variety of cross-country tracks, with 67km of marked trails in the Courchevel/La Tania area, many meandering through snow-covered woods. Snow reliability is excellent, with snowmaking covering the whole of the blue run back to the village, and North facing slopes retaining their snow into late April.
The resort itself contains plenty to make your holiday even more special. The pedestrianised centre features a number of fine restaurants; including the 1 Michelin starred le Farçon. There are shops and bars plus there are some excellent ski schools and childcare centres in the area. Whether you are visiting alone, as a couple, with the family or a group of friends, La Tania works as a great choice for all visitors.
