Vars resort is linked with neighbour Risoul to form La Forêt Blanche ski domain, one of the largest ski areas in the Southern French Alps. Its 185km are particularly suited to beginners and intermediates and you will find endless and a wide variety of undulating ski slopes.
The skiing is generally uncrowded and there is also plenty of untracked powder and ungroomed runs for the more advanced and adventurous skiers and snowboarders. One of the charms of Vars and the Forêt Blanche area is the tree lined skiing, not normally seen to this extent in France.
With slopes mainly above 1850m, mostly eastern facing as well as plentiful snowmaking, snow reliability is excellent; and whilst being a southerly resort also benefits from great sunshine. For snowboarders, there are excellent freeriding possibilities as well as 7 freestyle areas.
The resort is compact and purpose built, yet still attractive, with numerous traditional chalet-style buildings, in a lovely woodland setting and a genuine French atmosphere. The centre of Vars has a good selection of bars, restaurants and shops to keep you entertained after a day’s skiing.
