Alpe d’Huez Luxury Ski Chalets

A large and modern resort, Alpe d’Huez delivers great value ski in ski out chalets and a huge ski area.

Alpe d’Huez is an attractive purpose built ski resort, that sits at an elevation of 1,860m. Set on a high and sunny plateau in the Grand Rousses area of the Southern Alps, the wide and varied ski area is connected with an excellent and effecient lift system. Alpe d’Huez boasts great snow conditions due to its altitude and it is capped with a glacier that is home to some long black runs that make their way back to the resort.

The Alpe d’Huez ski terrain is deceptively steep in parts yet there are extensive, gentle nursery slopes next to the resort. With ski slopes that range from 1,100m in the valley below to the mighty glacial height of 3,330m, the extensive slopes offer something for all levels of skier and snowboarder.

For a truly impressive experience, take the Pic Blanc cable car up to 3,330m and you can then ski or snowboard for nearly an hour and a half without having to use another lift. Alpe d’Huez has got it all, from some of the best beginner slopes in France to some of the most challenging blacks in the Alps.

For a combination of the two, head for the longest black run in the Alps, the Sarenne, which stretches for 16km from the top of the glacier and changes gradient from nearly vertical to virtually horizontal during the 2000m descent. It is a run that can be tackled by any competent intermediate and is well worth the trek up as it is without doubt one of the most beautiful and memorable runs in the Alps.

The resort offers extensive leisure facilities, good child care, and lively nightlife. All of these factors contributes to Alpe d’Huez being a superb resort for families, differing grade skiers and boarders, and non-skiers.

With fantastic ski in ski out chalets, snow-sure slopes and stunning mountain views and you can see why it’s one of the most popular Alpine resorts.
