The secret bed & breakfast chalets of Courchevel 1550

Courchevel 1550 has fast become a destination worth serious consideration for a luxury ski holiday. With most chalets and apartments being within easy walking distance of the ski lifts and resort amenities, it’s easy to see why it’s becoming increasingly popular with our clients.

It may not have the cache of Courchevel 1850 and it doesn’t have a Chanel shop, but all of that is still on your doorstep of your luxury ski chalet without the hefty price tag.

The village center has a number of good restaurants including La Cortona a family friendly pizzeria and L’Oeil de Boeuf, an intimate 200 year old hut specializing in meat dishes. For those wanting to enjoy the glitzy bars and Michelin stared restaurants of Courchevel 1850, these are only a short taxi or bus ride away. The Grangettes telecabine from the village to Courchevel 1850 operates until 7pm daily allowing for you to indulge in some shopping or après ski without a ski down.

Skiing couldn’t be easier with the the Touvets chair lift and Grangettes telecabine whisking you quickly and efficiently to Courchevel 1850 and from there the worlds’ most extensive ski area is all yours.

For those needing ski lessons there are plenty of ski schools operating from the resort making it easy to drop off the little ones in the morning before heading for an adventurous day on the mountain. The ski home at the end of your day is either on a blue or red run, making the last run of the day available to all levels of skier.

It might surprise you to know that nestled in this compact resort are a number of fabulous luxury chalets. I was recently in Courchevel and spent a morning viewing 4 of them and they certainly offer a lot of chalet for your money.

All 4 ski chalets are located just 200m walk from the ski slopes, in a private gated domain affording a sense of privacy and luxury seldom found in the entre of a ski resort.

The first three chalets I viewed share a communal entrance and elevator though all have their own private ski and boot room with heated boot warmers. Chalet S, Chalet M and Chalet L’or Blanc are all located just a few minutes’ walk from the resort center and ski lift. Whichever of these beautiful chalets you choose you certainly won’t be disappointed.

They are all very similar in layout and size but their decoration is what sets them apart from each other. All chalets have access to a shared chauffeur service between 9am and 5pm should you wish to be dropped at the ski lifts or maybe take a day off from skiing and go for a splash around with the children at Courchevels high tech Aqua Motion center.

When stepping into your chalet for the first time you will be left breathless by the incredible, uninterrupted and seemingly never ending mountain views. Large double height picture windows flood the open plan living room with light, making this is a truly special place and one I’m sure you won’t want to leave.

Decoration throughout these chalets is modern and contemporary whilst still retaining the traditional wooden feel of a cosy chalet. The kitchen is spacious with all amenities you may need and the dining area provides a convivial entertaining space. Breakfast on the balcony in the early morning sun is certainly a delightful experience.

Sleeping 8 adults and 2 children, the 5 en-suite bedrooms in each chalet are all individually designed and positioned at the back of the chalet providing each room with spectacular mountain vistas.

Each chalet has its own private outdoor hot tub with Chalet M and L’or Blanc having a garden area too, an ideal safe haven for the children to play whilst you relax in your hot tub. They all have a cinema room with bar, great for entertaining or simply settling down to watch a good movie with friends and family.

Along with all of this the chalets have use of the communal lower ground facilities of a games room with pool table and table football, and there is a sofa to relax on and tea/coffee facilities on hand.

Most surprising is the fully equipped gym that would rival most chalet gyms that I’ve seen. With 2 cross trainers, a running machine, exercise bike, power plate and weights there shouldn’t be any problem sharing this gym.

If yoga, Pilates or stretching is something you enjoy to do whilst on your ski holiday, the yoga studio will be another welcome surprise.

Just 30 seconds walk along the private road you will find the wonderful Chalet Makalu, though separate from the other 3 chalets the guests still have access to the communal games area and gym that the other three chalets share.

The moment you step into Chalet Makalu you feel you have arrived home. Instantly your senses are greeted by a fine fragrance in the air that will linger with you long after your holiday has ended.

This luxury ski chalet oozes charm and its traditional chocolate box design will leave you feeling cosy and warm. The large picture windows in the living area afford outstanding mountain views and a well-placed chaise longue provides the perfect spot to soak up the beauty of the French Alps.

The large roaring fire adds to the authentic ski holiday feeling and a mezzanine area allows the children to play in their own little den.

There are 5 individually designed, spacious en-suite bedrooms with the master bedroom having the added luxury of both a bath and freestanding shower. Again they are all located at the back of the chalet providing all the rooms with breathtaking mountain and valley views.

Meticulous attention to detail has been given to this chalet and its finishing touches, with umptuous soft furnishings, unique lighting and interesting art work.

I particularly loved the cinema room with bar. It’s spacious and allows for children to watch a movie whilst adults have time together to chat through the stories of the day whilst sat at their very own cosy bar.

So what can you expect if you book at B&B holiday in any of these four chalets, well it’ll far more than is normally delivered with a self-catered holiday:

  • Breakfast on 7 days
  • Daily housekeeping
  • Midweek linen change
  • Fresh flowers
  • Ski storage at the bottom of the ski runs (if preferred)
  • In resort chauffeur service 09.00 – 17.00 daily
  • A chef can be added at an additional cost
