La Tania – What’s not to love!

The resort of La Tania is often overlooked when it comes to a ski chalet holiday in the Three Valleys. Most often we receive requests for chalets in the better-known resorts of Meribel and Courchevel 1850. Yet for families and groups of friends, La Tania has a great many good value chalets allowing access to the worlds most extensive ski area without breaking the bank.

My first two ski seasons were spent as a chalet host and laterally as a chef in La Tania (quiet some years ago now), so I know it better than most and have a very strong affection for the resort. So what’s so great about La Tania? Pretty much everything as it ticks so many boxes on the wish list for a ski holiday in France.

Resort Extent

The La Tania gondola whisks you quickly up the mountain to Praz-Juget from where you take a six-person ski lift to the slopes above Courchevel 1850 or take a quick two person lift that links to the resort of Méribel and beyond. The ski slopes above La Tania and nearby La Praz offer long tree lined runs of varying degrees of difficulty and offer shelter in bad weather.

Returning back to resort or your chalet at the end of the day is via a red, blue or green run making it an option for skiers of all abilities. The main village has an area for complete beginners and although a relatively low resort at 1350m, the excellent snow making facilities ensure the resort can operate in early and late season.

The resort center is attractive, compact and traffic free so once you get to the piste and ski lift area you can let the children play without too much concern. The beginner area in the village caters well for children and the lift is free. There is a better beginner area at the top of the gondola though this may require down lifting until the skier progresses to the home green run. The village has a small supermarket, a couple of tourist shops and several bars and restaurants.

Bars and Restaurants

Though a small resort La Tania still has a lot to offer, with restaurants such at Les Marmottons offering informal dining with pizza and local Savoyard specialties to fine dining at Le Facon offering Michelin stared cuisine. For après ski or good old English pub grub try Pub Le Ski Lodge, it’s a firm favourite with returning guests who enjoy a lively après session with live music and maybe the chance to see owner Tim play his French horn rather badly on the terrace.

Ski Chalets

On a recent visit to La Tania I had the opportunity to view some fabulous chalets providing our clients with a great value ski holiday and luxury chalet experience.

My first stop was Chalet Ecritoire with its enviable ski in/ski out location. This is a fabulous chalet for those of you wanting the ease of simply popping your skis on or off on your doorstep. The ski out is a mere 70m to the La Tania gondola, which provides quick and easy access to the 3 Valleys, whilst the resort center is an easy 200m stroll away.

Not only does the chalet have an amazing location but also oodles of facilities to keep you entertained in the evenings. The chalet is equipped with private hot tub, sauna, cinema room and table football. With 5 fully en-suite bedrooms sleeping 10 people it’s a great chalet for groups of friends or 2 families. The large open plan living area provides ample space for everyone to get together and chat through the days’ exploits whilst enjoying a glass of wine or a beer. With prices starting from £6,900 a week, it’s easy to see why this chalet is so popular with our clients.

If you’re a smaller group or family looking for an intimate chocolate box style catered ski chalet for 8 then look no further than Chalet Pleroma. This charming chalet is located in a quiet cul-de-sac with near ski in/ski out access making it a very desirable property. It’s just a 50m walk to the piste and a 10-minute stroll to the resort center. Though you’ve no need to worry about walking anywhere with the chalets in-resort driver being on call all day for you. The chalet has 4 en-suite bedrooms, a hot tub, fireplace, panoramic views and a starting price of £5,520 per week. You’ll have to call us quickly though to grab a week in this chalet with only few weeks left available.

If snuggling up with loved ones on a comfy sofa by a roaring fire is your idea of the perfect ski holiday, then Chalet Johanna will not leave you disappointed. This 5-bedroom chalet allows flexibility for different group needs with 4 bedrooms configured as either twin or double beds and 1 family bedroom sleeping up to 4. With a fabulous outdoor hot tub and convenient location just 50m from the piste, it’s easy to see why this chalet is so popular. For non-skiers or those wanting to get to ski school in the morning there is an all day resort driver service to take you the 2 minutes’ drive. If of an evening you like to stretch your legs and visit one of the many bars, then it’s only a 10-minute stroll. Prices for this catered chalet start at £6,130

My last La Tania visit of the day was to Chalet Belvedere, a self-catered ski chalet with an amazing location and the added advantages of daily housekeeping and driver service; services seldom associated with a self-catered property. This spacious 5-bedroom chalet has a surprising number of facilities, boasting a hot tub, sauna and cinema room. The large open plan living area invites its guests to lounge by the crackling fireplace or take in the views from the large picture windows. I love the children’s snug with space for several little ones to escape and watch a movie whilst mum and dad are never very far away.

The chalet is located in a quiet cul-de-sac just a few steps from the Moretta Blanche red run, making it a ski in/ski out chalet for competent skiers. For those who prefer a gentler start or finish to the day the chalet is offered with an all day on call driver service to take you the couple of minute’s drive to the ski lifts and resort center. In the evenings, the bars and restaurants are an easy 10-minute walk away. This chalet is so popular that peak weeks do get booked up well in advance and it’s easy to see why when it boasts the convenience of a self-catered chalet but with all the facilities you expect with a catered property. Prices start at £4,200 and we can even help you arrange a cook to prepare your evening meals if so desired.

La Tania is definitely worth your consideration for your next ski holiday and it has a real community feel that you’re sure to leave having made numerous new ski buddies and making plans to return the next year.
